Gearhart has been a special get-away spot for years. With 1,400 full-time residents, and the seasonal ebb-and-flow that comes with summer, it's a sleepy little town that is reminiscent of New England coastal communities.

Beach access from Tarry is easy & quick! Walk west on "B" street (half a block) to Cottage Ave. Take a right (heading north) on Cottage and go to the Gearhart's main intersection (two blocks), to Pacific Way. There, turn left (west) and walk to the end of Pacific Way. The beach access trail begins there, at Ocean Avenue (see map below).

The sea grass prevents sand erosion and protects the homes, so the path meanders through there and pops you out onto arguably the most beautiful beach on the Oregon Coast. During low tide season, 1,000 locals will be out there clamming at 5:30am. It's not unheard-of that when the season opens, many people max out with their razor clam allotment within minutes.
